I thought I'd share with you how I spent my gift card from Big Lots. Mr. A was with me, and wanted the miniature shovel for $8.00.
I bought two pillows, one for me and one for Big A. I usually buy $5 pillows from Walmart, but I thought these Ralph Lauren pillows would hold up better than the WM specials. My pillow is almost five years old and very flat. As it turns out, this pillow was so thick and I ended up giving it to Mr. A. I also bought a 12 pack of washclothes for $3.00 and a document case for $2.00. My purchases came to exactly $25.00. I was really proud of myself for staying with the amount.
8.7% sales tax?! *jaw drops* WOW.
You did great on being right on the spot! 🙂

Hi Mrs. Money! Yep, the tax varies from county to county, and city to city within Arizona. The tax for Arizona is 5.6% and then each county or city adds on its own amount. There was a big broohaha recently when the City of Phoenix wanted to start charging a tax for food… well, we’ve been paying tax on food ever since we moved from Phoenix. It was an adjustment to get used to, but we did. At least I never followed through with my idea to only shop for food in Phoenix. I’d be bummed out now if I had.

That’s the type of savings that makes you smile face and do a fist pump. Great job. I have a $25 Best Buy gift card that I am trying to make sure that I get the maximum benefits from as well.

I’m glad to hear you found your Big Lots gift card (wasn’t this the one you had misplaced?). It looks like you did great, and I totally get the 8.7% sales tax, I live in CA and pay almost 10% in sales tax. It stinks!

Little House, it was the Walmart card that my boss gave me for Christmas. I did find it, and I haven’t spent it yet. Wow, California’s taxes are even higher. That’s awful since they are in such bad shape financially. I hope things get better soon for you all over there.
