I Got To Meet Pioneer Woman Last Night! Enter to Win a Cookbook!

CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ENTERED. THE WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN A FEW DAYS.

Giveaway at Out of Debt Again!  I’m offering a beautiful and very special cookbook to one of my visitors and it has been signed personally by the author, Ree Drummond of The Pioneer Woman Cooks! I have been reading Pioneer Woman’s blog for over two years and when I saw that she was coming to Arizona I felt like I’d won a prize!! I sometimes don’t enter her contests because she has SOOOOO many faithful readers and so many thousands of comments.  I have never been to a book signing in my life, but I knew I was going to this one!!

I’ll be right up front about the personal finance aspect of this post.  I blew a lot of money on cookbooks!! The same cookbook! Remember my post from a few days ago, how Amazon duplicated my order and how I let them know I needed to send the duplicate order back? Well, I changed my mind and decided to keep the extras. I called Amazon and told them I’d changed my mind.  They were more than happy to charge me for the books. 🙂 Now I have six of these beauties in my possession! I have found homes for three of them, and one of the remaining three has been personally signed by Ree Drummond.

Pioneer Woman Cookbooks

Ree is SUCH a sweetheart!!   I am going to post more details about the event last night, but first I want to tell you about my special giveaway, and I hope you’ll join in and sign the petition that I’ve set up for Ree.

Last night one of the questions posed to her was if she ever got her chicken project off the ground. She said it had stalled out and she needed help persuading Marlboro Man. She said she needed a petition, so I thought I’d set one up for her and let’s see if we can get Marlboro Man to agree to let PW have chickens!

I’ve set up a petition here,  please go and sign up! If you have any other good reasons other than the ones I’ve already mentioned, please enter them into the comments section. Also, please note you may use a pen name when you sign the petition, and you do NOT have to make a donation after your response has been submitted.

And now for my special giveaway – I was in line from 5:30pm and luckily was able to get a seat around 6:00 and then stayed planted there until I was able to get my book signed personally by Ree at 10:54pm. We were told she would sign everyone’s book, and on previous nights (in other cities) had been at the book signing until 1am!

Mrs. Accountability and P-Dub!
Mrs. Accountability and P-Dub!

She is so photogenic! By the time she got to signing my book, she’d already signed about 250 books – look at her beautiful smile!  She talked to each person, and let everyone take pictures with her. It was such fun!

But more on that later. Sorry I got sidetracked again… back to my special giveaway… I got one book signed so that I can give it away to one of my visitors!

Signed by the Author Ree Drummond!

  2. Sign the petition found here: Pioneer Woman Should Have Chickens! This will earn you two points. Please let me know in the comments that you have signed the petition.
  3. Tweet about this contest and the petition. Tweeting about the contest earns you one point. Tweeting about the petition earns you one point. Tweeting about both, earns you three points. Follow me on twitter here.
  4. Blog about this contest and the petition at your blog, you must blog and link to this post and mention the petition. This will earn you four points. Failure to hyperlink to this post and mentioning the petition will negate these points.

I will share more of the story, and how much I actually ended up spending on cookbooks in another post, so stay tuned! UPDATE: Okay, I got my rendition of the night typed up, including a transcription of the questions and answers with Ree.

  1. There are so many of her recipes that I love. It would be easier to list the ones that I don’t. But saying that, I think her recipe for Fresh Corn Casserole is fantastic.

Hi Victoria!! Thank you and congratulations for being the very first commenter on this post!! I have not tried the Fresh Corn Casserole recipe yet! I agree with you, it would be easier to list P-Dub’s recipes that I don’t like… my son is trying the Olive Cheese Bread recipe again today. We didn’t like it so much the first time, but maybe we did something wrong. LOL. Thank you so much for entering my contest, and I hope you win! 🙂

  2. My favorite Pioneer Woman recipe is the Apple Cake in an Iron Skillet. It reminds me of my not-so-sainted grandmother, who made a similar cake on her wood stove and who was not beyond giving G-d a stiff talking to if she felt her needs were not being attended to. I signed the chicken petition. Every house should have chickens.

Hi SJ, we haven’t tried this one yet, but it sounds delicious!! And thank you for signing the petition!

  3. I LOVE the Pioneer Woman. Her site has revolutionized my cooking! It’s true!
My favorite PW MEAL is Ranch Chicken with Smashed Potatoes…and maybe some spreads for dessert! I can’t pick between Ranch Chicken and Smashed Potatoes…please say I don’t have to…please! 🙂
    THANK YOU!

Mrs. B, thank you for entering my contest! I am adding hyperlinks to the recipes. Ree has several potato recipes that seem to be called “smashed” – did I link to the right ones? The Ranch Style Chicken looks divine, I have not had breakfast yet and am starving!! Thanks for stopping by! Please tell your friends to come by and enter and vote!

  4. Well I signed the petition but don’t have a twitter account or a blog. My husband would not let me try the chicken spaghetti even though he loves spaghetti but after three months of haranguing him I finally just served it to him. First bite was “my g-d this is wonderful, why haven’t you made this before”. Yes he did live. But it has been a family favorite since. As is the Penne Pasta with shrimp and the apple dessert (made with Mountain Dew soda). Divine! Have served it to many guests and all want the recipe.

  5. Chicken Spaghetti is my favorite (so far) recipe from Ree.

    I also signed the petition.

AND even though you didn’t put this, just in case, I put a link to the contest on my facebook wall 🙂

Thanks for the opportunity(s) to win!

Debbie in GA: I don’t much get into Facebook, but I do have an account there and I do appreciate you putting a link to the contest on your Facebook wall!! Thank you very much!

  6. The apple dumplings are absolutely yummy! That is one recipe my family has begged for over and over!
I Signed the petition. Our family has enjoyed having a flock of chickens, if able I highly recommend it!
    Blessings,
    Kath

  7. I too got to meet Ms. Ree on Thursday night and get my book autographed!! I would love though to win a book to give to my friend who came with me who couldn’t buy a book of her own! Thanks!!

  8. My favorite is hot crash potatoes. So easy and so yummy!

And I did vote on the petition. I don’t have twitter or blogs.
I would very much like to have the cookbook. I don’t have one and my funds are limited. I hope I win. Thanks for the opportunity to enter.

  9. Oh how I love all her recipes, but I am going to have to say my favorite is Hot Crash Potatoes because that was the first recipe I made and it turned out a total success thanks to Ree awesome picture by picture tutorials.

Oh and I definitely signed the petition. I raise chickens and I love it so much, that I think everyone needs a couple of coops worth. LOL

  10. I signed the petition and added a great tip about Chickens. They keep all the pesky pest away like Mosquitoes, flies, ticks, beetles, ants and grasshoppers at bay.

  11. I just signed the petition, but selected that my name remain as anonymous on the actual petition. Thank you again for the opportunity! I love her recipes!!

  12. I signed the petition for her chickens because fresh eggs do rock. However I also see the side to Marlboro Man’s reluctance. I live next to a neighbor who had chickens and the smell was bad but the noisy rooster was worse.

  13. Oh boy, it seems like every time she posts a recipe that’s the one that becomes my new favorite! So, with that being said, I guess I’d have to say that her Carrot Squash & Curry Soup is my “newest” favorite. She really does a great job all the way around all of her posts. I SO want to win this since she’s not even coming near my neck of the woods! Thanks………

  14. I couldn’t wait to go over & sign the petition you’ve set up for Ree & her chicken project. I had chickens & know the fun they are AND all about having the freshest eggs this “city girl” ever had! Oh yes, I did sign it!

  15. I AM going to try the Baked Lemon Pasta! I love lemon and have a lemon tree that has been giving me TONS of lemons lately… I’m always on the lookout for new things to do with them (think cleaning as well as cooking…).

  16. With the name of the blog being Out of Debt Again and the giving of the Pioneer CookBook, I had images of cooking in an iron cauldren over a fire pit. Wearing the only clothes I own. But this vision quickly fled when I started to peruse the recipes. Ummmm! Lots to love but I’d start with the Baked Mushrooms Baby!.

  17. Pingback: Giveaway
  18. I love her grilled rib eye steak with onion-blue cheese sauce!!! LOVE.

I signed (and paid for – what???) the petition. I love PW and would love to see her Lucille Ball like antics as she recounts her life as the mother of chickens :O)

    Oh!!! I hope I win! She – sadly – isn’t coming to California :O(

    Thank you for this giveaway!!!

    Mrs. Accountability Reply:

OH dear!! Susan you didn’t need to pay for anything! See if you can get your money back.

  19. I think I signed the petition…does it count if I don’t make a donation?

    Mrs. Accountability Reply:

Carolsue, yes your signature counts without donation! The donation request is from ipetitions to support their site, not required at all!

  20. Oh my goodness! Such excitement! I haven’t been to visit in a few days, I guess almost two weeks and totally missed that Pioneer Woman was in town. Lucky you to get to meet her! I’ll go sign the chicken petition even though I’m too late for the giveaway.
