Monthly Report January 2008

Okay, here’s how January looked.

Payment for credit card #2 comes out of my account automatically, unless I’ve made a payment earlier in the month. Since I made the payment manually on December 31st, the auto-payment didn’t come out on the scheduled date. I didn’t catch that during the month and so technically no payment was made to the higher credit card for the month of January.

Although not paying that payment is a bad thing, it helped us to stay within our income for the month.

I am confident that February will look much better, as there were some purchases made in January at Target’s 90% off Christmas clearance sales which filtered into Household, Gifts Given, Clothing, Entertainment, and Office Supplies. I also have not been reimbursed for wrapping paper and cards that I bought for a coworker who has been in the hospital twice since the year started.

We also had to take our dog to the vet, which cost $48 and is not a planned expense. He had a lump that we wanted to have looked at, and it turns out it is a histiocytoma. WARNING: The link provided shows a graphic looking angry red lesion. That is not what our dog’s growth looks like at all. Our vet says it is nothing to worry about. We were given several options, ranging from $0 to $400. We took the $0 option, which is to “wait and see if it goes away on its own”. The site referenced above says these growths typically go away by themselves within three months. Cortaid is recommended if the growth is causing the dog to itch. Our dog does not seem to be bothered in the least with his growth, so we will see what happens.

I’ve decided to create a budget amount for some of the items we seem to routinely spend on. I think that’s important with a budget, to be flexible. Especially if you have the money to be flexible with. Those items are in bold. Click on the image to see a larger, more legible version.

All in all, I’m pleased with the progress in January as it seems we are finally getting hold financially of our budget.
