It's that time of year in the desert in Arizona, the citrus trees are full of juicy fruit. We have a problem with roof rats in the big city, so it's important to get the fruit picked off the tree. That means people everywhere are bringing in bags of citrus. Grapefruit seems to be especially prolific this year as it just keeps showing up: from coworkers at my job, at church, from Mr. A's sister, and even from Mr. A's customers.
A couple of weeks ago I went with Mr. A on one of his jobs and his customer mentioned having a lot of grapefruit that she'd picked, that was beginning to look a little old and dry. I told her it was probably still fine for juicing and two days later Mr. A came home with a bag of grapefruit. At least twenty. Coincidentally, I'd just brought home two bags myself from a coworker.
We don't have enough room in the refrigerator to store the grapefruit so I knew I needed to get it juiced as soon as possible. I finally got around to juicing one bagful on Saturday.

My mother-in-law gave me this great Cuisinart juicer for Christmas and it has really come in handy. I managed to get 10 cups of juice from about twenty grapefruits. And it was free, except for the bit of electricity used to juice them.
We've been enjoying a glass of grapefruit juice with breakfast the past few mornings. Delicious! And another nice side effect is grapefruit juice curbs the appetite so I eat less.
I love free stuff.
