I didn’t mean to! I bought a new pencil since the old one had just a nub left in the tip. I prefer the kind that you twist and the eye liner moves up into position, as opposed to the old fashioned pencil types that you have to sharpen. I haven’t found one of those that go on as smoothly as the twist type. I’d also replaced my mascara, since the old one was gunky.
I was putting on makeup one morning – I only wear a bit of eyeliner on my lower lids, and mascara to bring out my eyes somewhat since I wear glasses – and I thought to myself that I needed to throw away the old ones since I keep picking up the wrong ones. How stupid to keep them sitting there when they are old and should go in the garbage!
So I picked up the old eyeliner and mascara, and threw it right in the garbage. And felt really pleased with myself because I’m such a packrat sometimes it hurts to throw things away.
Then I got to feeling crappy and tired again, so tired that I didn’t even feel like putting on any makeup at all. And I didn’t use any makeup for about two weeks. Everyone at work kept commenting on how tired I looked. I’m sure it was just enhanced by my lack of eye makeup.
Finally I felt rested enough one morning to get up a little early and actually remembered to put on makeup. And what do I find? That I threw away the brand new eyeliner!! Well, thank goodness the old one had the tiny nub left on it so I could line my eyes for a few more days. I guess I shouldn’t have thrown the “old” one out until every single drop of liner was gone.
I still haven’t replaced my eyeliner, but I will need to do that soon.
I tried to get by with a brand from Walgreens that was on discount, and it only had about one inch of liner in the pen! It was gone within a couple of months, while the brand name I use lasts nearly a year.
Yours Truly,

Augh! How frustrating…and exactly the sort of thing that happens to me, too.
I stopped wearing eyeliner, having read somewhere that Frenchwomen wear a lot less make-up than we do. All I’m using now is mascara plus beige & brown eyeshadow, blended. But every now & again I’ll crave a little eyeliner. Instead of a pencil, tho’, you can take a very fine artist’s brush (or eyeliner brush, if you prefer to buy brushes at Walgreen’s instead on sale at Michael’s), moisten it with a little water, and use a dark brown or dark gray eyeshadow as liner. It’s subtler than pencil liner–and WAY subtler than liquid liner–but it does bring out your eyes pretty well.
Funny, I’ll have to try that idea about the eyeliner. The one I use is a Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus so it’s not actually a liquid liner. What I really like about your suggestion is the probability that eyeshadow used in that manner would almost certainly last much longer than a pencil! Mucho cost effective! I’ll have to try it! Thanks!
