I just had to share. These delicious L. Frances caramels are available from Walgreens stores in many Arizona cities. It’s been interesting to watch their packaging change. Initially it only said “L. Frances Caramels”. A few months later, I noticed they had their website on the wrapping, but the website doesn’t seem to have much to do with their candy – I think they need a new webmaster. Hmmm… it would be fun making a website for candy! And most recently, the wrapping now includes their barcode. Prior to the barcode, Walgreens had to use a little card with their barcode in order to scan them into the cash register.
They are so delicious, I was concerned that they might disappear and I’d never find them again. Some items have a way of doing that. To prevent that unsavory end, I did some research and finally found their phone number which is (920) 955-2000 UPDATED number: ( 888) 693-8264.
I called them up to compliment them on their product, and I also asked about their website which they explained was under construction. UPDATE: On 9-9-09, one of my visitors left a comment that the L. Frances Caramels website is up and running!
I asked about buying the product in bulk, and the lady explained to me that it’s actually less expensive to buy the candies retail. She said there are 36 pieces in a pound, and one pound costs $11.95 plus $4.95 for shipping. I think she also said they only ship to Arizona on Mondays because otherwise the caramels would melt out of their packaging due to the heat.
The caramels are soft, chewy and rich tasting. The container they sit in at Walgreens says made with Wisconsin butter and cream.
They are very delicious, and if you are a caramel lover, you don’t want to miss this one.
They cost $0.33 each. I buy three at a time, eat one right away and save the other two for a treat at another time. They are incredible.
The lady also gave me the serving size and calories and fat content.
- 3 pieces makes one serving
- 180 calories per serving
- 8 grams fat per serving
Here is the ingredients list: Corn Syrup, Heavy Cream (Cream, Gelatin, Mono- & Diglycerides, Carrageenan, Cellulose Gum, Polysorbate 80), Evaporated Milk (Milk, Dipotassium Phosphate, Carrageenan, Vitamin D3), Sugar, Brown Sugar, Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Palm Kernel Oil, Soybean Oil, Cottonseed Oil, Soy Lecithin), Butter (Cream, Salt), Water, Salt, Soy Lethicin, Propylene Glycol, Artificial Flavors, Preservatives (TBHQ, Citric Acide, Sodium Benzoate), Caramel Color, Phosphoric Acid.

I work at one of the CVS’s at the pharmacy counter, in fact, and I saw these at the counter. Having not eaten in 4 hours, I decided to have a little snack after having a associate cash me out… Thank god I have to pay for them, because I would’ve eaten the whole tin! I ended up having to move the tin to the next register so they wouldn’t taunt me to spend money while earning money. Soooo delicious.
