How Do You Get Through Spending Urges?

Every once in a while I started getting these really strong urges to spend money; especially when we’ve made a renewed commitment to our budget.   The weird thing is, I’m really not that much of a spender.  It’s the deprivation mode setting in.

Here’s some things I did to deal with those urges.

  1. Dug out my gift cards to see how much is left on each one. I have one for $25 from Walgreens (prescription transfer), and my Ross Dress For Less from my MIL is still almost at $100. My MIL sent some money but she asked me to buy myself a Magic Bullet.  That’s what she would have bought me she says, if she could have gotten to Costco.
  2. Reminded myself of my $25 Gift Certificate from Amazon.
  3. Billed two of my clients (website work).
  4. Tell myself to make a point to list some things on eBay!

What do you do when you start feeling the urge to spend money?

Yours Truly,

Mrs. Accountability

  1. Mostly, I look at the debt total and think of how much more satisfying it would be to put the money into credit card payments. Rather than something like a shirt that could go out of style next year.

If that doesn’t work, I just stay at home and try to skip through commercials so I will be less tempted.
