And… rolling in the credit card debt. I know it’s usually the last thing that anyone ever advises, but having given it a lot of thought over the past year I believe we can make it work for us as an effective debt reduction strategy.
I’m a little blown away by what our credit union can swing. We currently owe owe $48K on our mortgage, with twenty three years left … click here to continue reading It Looks Like We Might Be Refinancing Our Home

Amazingly I managed to harvest some eggplant from the garden yesterday morning. I was surprised to see how many eggplant had grown over the last week or so. I guess since the temperatures are not so horribly high, although we were scheduled for a heatwave high of 114°F yesterday. In the photo you’ll see mostly Lavender Touch eggplant, a few Raveena eggplant, and some basil!
These are eggplant that are old … click here to continue reading Garden Gleanings in August

On September 5th last year we signed up for our current broadband Internet connection. Previously we were paying $69.99 per month and $55 for our land line. This new service offered VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and a much faster connection for $59.99 a month (see the previous post for speed tests), so we canceled the old Internet and our regular land line. AJ and I are the ones on … click here to continue reading My Long Lost Kill-A-Watt Finally Found!

Surprise from my hubby… back when he fixed the air conditioning on my vehicle… he bought another part that I’ve been doing without for more than a year. His reasoning was we would have paid $110 for the blower assembly new, and since we saved $80, and since he was already at the junk yard… wouldn’t hurt to ask about it.
It’s the rolling down mechanism for the driver’s side window. … click here to continue reading I Can Finally Roll Down My Window

I happened upon this site today as I was blog hopping: The Life Change Experiment. I only read through some of the posts, but the gist of the blog is that the couple has decided to give away everything they own. You might be able to get something for yourself, if you hurry. The offer ends on September 1st – here is the actual website where they are giving away … click here to continue reading Decluttering is Hard to Do

Looking for a way to monitor your gasoline usage? Look no further, download my Excel spreadsheet calculator.
I love Wordpress. I used to have this blog over at Blogger and while there, I was very pleased and happy with the blogging program. But I started getting itchy fingers, and wanted to try Wordpress. I am so happy that I did.
One of the things that was really a pain on Blogger was … click here to continue reading Free Excel Gasoline Calculator – How Much Gas Do You Use?

One of my coworkers forwarded an email to me last week and I thought it might be of interest to those of you out there with student loans. You may qualify, or maybe you know of someone else who could benefit.
The following is from the email that was forwarded to me:
The College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 established a new public service loan forgiveness program. This program discharges … click here to continue reading Student Loan Forgiveness Program

This is why I’m so danged paranoid about taking our checking account down to under $200. Last weekend, our checking account showed that we had over $3000. I paid some bills, made some credit card payments and took it down to $295.28.
I wasn’t sure if a payment was due for Mr. A’s COBRA; I wasn’t sure if last month was the last payment, or this month. A call on Monday … click here to continue reading Oh Shoot! Overdrafted Our Checking!

Most of my garden is dead due to the heat this month. The average for August was 94°F. The highest temperature was 115.6°F and the low was 65.3°F. This desolate barren bed used to be the squash bed.
I couldn’t use this bed throughout the summer. I had a brainstorm last spring about using pallets with chicken wire stapled to the bottom as a way to keep out the gophers that … click here to continue reading August 2009 Garden Update

I first heard about the expensive Coach bags over at a blog that has since been taken down – Jim over at My Debt Blog last year mentioned his wife wanted another Coach bag for Christmas.
Then at church a couple of weeks ago, one of the young ladies there was talking about her new Coach bag that her Grandma was giving her for her birthday. This is all she wanted, … click here to continue reading What’s the Deal with Coach Bags?
